The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger Regarding Size Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present a different size category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The company said the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
It has advised users to check their listings and manually change the size when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Updates
Previously, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she said.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, from Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
